Discovering Solo RPGs

Solo RPGs became a creative lifeline for me in 2020, offering both an escape and a way to express my ideas when traditional RPG groups weren’t an option. I fell in love with worldbuilding—crafting names, places, and NPCs—and the thrill of learning through research.

For example, creating and revising the poison dynamic led me to explore substances used in warfare throughout history (and in the animal kingdom), enriching the complexity of my characters and worldbuilding. For me, the process of questioning, creating, and learning simultaneously is where the magic happens.

Why I'm Starting this Blog

I started this blog to share my passion for solo RPGs, connect with others who love storytelling, and organize my creative projects. Solo RPGs combine creativity and flexibility, sparking a drive to learn about history, philosophy, and more. This blog is a way to explore these interests and share them with a community that values imagination and exploration. Here, you’ll find insights into solo RPGs, creative tools, and my personal adventures.

Sharing and Collaborating

While solo RPGs are inherently private, this blog is my way of sharing the worlds, characters, and adventures I’ve created. By sharing lessons learned and creative insights, I hope to inspire others and spark conversations with fellow storytellers.

Balancing gameplay, editing, and creative organization has been a challenge, but it’s also part of what makes solo RPGs so rewarding. For instance, using Obsidian has helped me streamline my process by organizing notes and keeping track of ideas across sessions. Through this blog, I hope to share my process, including lessons I’ve learned about managing tools, notes, and ideas to create cohesive stories.

Goals for the Blog

This year, my goals include playing one solo RPG session weekly, posting one blog entry each week, and completing a creative project tied to my adventures. These goals help me stay accountable and continually grow as a storyteller. By sharing these goals and my progress, I hope to inspire others to explore solo RPGs and find their own creative paths.

Current Projects

I'm currently using the Basic Fantasy RPG system, which has inspired me to return to the basics and rediscover the joy of simplicity in gaming. I’m also reworking my first solo RPG project, The Badlands of Uzul, and preparing to share Sathu the Lizard Priest's solo adventures as part of a new blog series.
